![]() So Tuesday was the perfect day, warmer temps - low 60s - and the day we headed to Zion. ![]() Over my trip I had the coconut cream pie, german chocolate pie, boisenberry pie, and the chicken pot pie. They sell by the pie or slice and it is all good. Next to my hotel, the Holiday Inn on Bluff Street, is a strip center with a Pie Store/Bakery/Restaurant. Ok - here comes the part of the trip that caused me to gain 2 pounds. And then I plopped at the sand dunes for an hour reading my book, pure bliss! In the rock you see where the pioneers placed their names and dates in axle grease. Not hard, but fun for any age - you kept seeing a new view around each bend. It is a fun trail, with red sand, rocks, beautiful vistas, black lava rock, a big rock to squeeze through, etc. I did about 2 miles RT, since I was alone I wanted to stay where the people were (you can go 3+ miles). I did get to do the Three Ponds Trail (recommended by the ranger) and it was so cool. Unfortunately, I was there when the slot canyons were closed so I could not see them. Snow Canyon was wonderful - I thought I might just drive through because I felt a little odd by myself, but I was drawn to the trails. Then my friend got sick (not from the food!) so I puttered around the hotel and then headed to Snow Canyon State Park on my own. We had a very nice time and then did some shops in the downtown (about 45 minutes). There was a line at 9:30 in the morning! This place is popular and for good reason - the coffee, fruit drinks, breakfast meals are great. Monday we got up and headed downtown for breakfast at the Bear Claw. ![]() And I would have to say it was excellent and one of the best waitresses I have ever had. I know, a chain restaurant but I don't have one nearby. We spent the rest of the day shopping and eating - went to Olive Garden. We were going to do the Temple Quarry walk and got to the beginning of the trail, but we were being blown away! So, using the map (thanks Just Hugh) we did the one by the river which was much better based on the weather. St George is quite the gem! My first full day, Sunday, was super, super windy and rain in the forecast. Although it was right across the street and wouldn't have been a problem, it was nice not carting my suitcase across the street. When I called to make my reservations he asked where I was staying and then told me the driver would pick me up and drop me off at my hotel. If possible, I would show up early to pick a better seat. It is a van with bench seats - so you better like your neighbors! Luckily I was in an outside seat, I felt sorry for the last lady who got to sit in between 2 larger men. I took the St George Shuttle and it was fine. Yikes on that story about the SG Express.
